Week 8 Progress

At this point in the class, I am on track to make an A! So I am quite happy with the progress I'm making, especially in regards to writing stories. The stories are probably my favorite part of the class, because I have the creative freedom to do what I want (within the confines of the class) while receiving feedback to refine it. It's a good cycle to be in, where everyone benefits. And I think I've adapted to a good, habitual, weekly routine now. Extra credit on Monday (if I have time), reading on Tuesday and Wednesday, story/lab on Thursday, then project/comments over the weekend, with more extra credit if I'm feeling up for it. 

Looking forward, I'm wary of becoming too comfortable with this schedule, and not looking at the Canvas and end up missing some big announcement. In regards to my website and blog, I am thinking about maybe changing up some design elements? I think they're okay and convey the focus of what they are for, but maybe they can be refined more. If I'm not feeling like the changes were good, it'll just remain the same, simple as that.

Hello, It's Me, Smith T

My name is Smith. I know your first question: "What?? That's your first name?" 99.3% of people I've met have had this exact same conversation with me. I believe this is how the story goes: I was born in Bangkok, Thailand in July 1997. My mother is a native Thai, and my father is from Burma (which I believe is now called Myanmar). They had set their minds and their hearts to go the US eventually to make sure their kids had a good education and a better opportunity at a good life. Thus, to make sure I fit in, they looked up the most common English names. Unfortunately, the one they found happened to be a last name. And so, to this day, I have never met another man named Smith. Here's a picture of my parents, taken on a trip back to Thailand last summer. Week 11 Story: Choraya's Diary

Choraya's Diary, Entry 1, Tula 12: Oh, how I've waited for tomorrow - the day of my marriage! The harvest is over, the weather is cooling, and I finally get to be married to the woman of my dreams. She is beautiful as the lilies, and as radiant as the stars. How lucky am I to be joined to her for the rest of my life. I cannot wait!! Maybe twenty years from now, I can present this diary to our children, as a memento and record of the beginning of our lives together.
